[1] leaves, paper. 11x14 cm German.
Background: Unlike other ghettos where food consumption and basic goods were based on smuggling out of the ghetto, in Lodz it was almost impossible because of the strict adherence of the German authorities. The Jews were completely dependent on the German authorities and the Judenrat for food, medicine, and other essential equipment. As a result, hunger and disease were rampant in the ghetto. About 164,000 people were forced to cram into an area of 4 square kilometers, of which only 2.4 kilometers were habitable. In 1944 the ghetto was liquidated by the Nazi forces.
