"Neither hatred nor persecution can stay the progress of science and civilization." Postcard of a painting showing Hitler and Einstein, 1934.
This is one of the first openly anti-NAZI propaganda postcards produced in the UNITED States. Marketed by Michael Califano, the card is derived from a lifr size painting by him entitled "The lgnominy of the
Twentrieth Century." The card depicts a deranged Hitler expelling Albert Einstein from Germany. This card so infuriated NAZI sympathizers in the United States that Califano's life was forever changed. In May 1935, Califano's studio was ransacked and he was beaten senseless. He spent the rest of his life as a recluse, a broken and bitter man.
