1943, Postage stamp 50 Centesimi - Michel no. 50 *The war propaganda stamp produced in 1943 by the British Political WExecutive (PWE), a parody of the Italian-German brotherhood in arms from 1941 (Italian Mi, No. 626), is genuine and has full original gum with traces of adhesive. 1943, In June/July the French Resistance, or FFI printed this forgery depicting General Charles de Gaulle in profile. The stamps are generally of poor quality printing on poor quality paper. They are commonly known as the “Nice Forgery” (in German, Nizza-Fälschung) after the city of Nice, France. Copies are known to have been used on mail transported within France during 1943-44.
