A Heavy Mail official envelope posted by Rgistered Airmail from Jerusalem to New York in 1951. The cover, featuring both Registered and Airmail labels, bears stamps tied with the departure Jerusalem CDS dated November 22nd, 1951. It is a heavily franked envelope, utilizing large-size official State of Israel stationery, measuring 29.5cm x 23.5cm. Addressed to the Israel Supply Mission at 250 West 57th Street, New York, N.Y., U.S.A.,- it likely contained postage sheets. The franking totals 1,145Pr., exceeding the standard rate by 14 times according to the rate period of FA-2a. This includes multiple frankings of : 'Negev / Eilat' valued at 500Pr. ; 'Coins' at 5Pr. and '40th Anniversary of Tel Aviv' (Mi. 55, Sc. 44) 40Pr. in a block of 12 and a vertical strip of 4. The arrival in New York is marked by a circular date stamp dated November 26th, 1951.
The rarity of heavy mail envelopes in such exceptional condition from this period further enhances the significance of this piece.
