1941, A PRE STAMPED POLISH POSTCARD ADDRESSED TO CHAIM MORDECHAI RUMKOWSKI [1877 - 1944]. "ELDER OF THE JEWS" IN THE LODZ GHETTO. WRITTEN ON 1/9/1941, ADDITIONAL RUSSIAN STAMPS WERE ADDED AND CANCELLED 1/12/1941.
Born in Llino, Russia, Rumkowski settled in Lodz at the turn of the century. In the period between the two world wars he was engaged in social and welfare activities, running several Jewish orphanages. He was a member of the General Zionist Party and represented it on the council of the Jewish community in Lodz. Rumkowski conyrary to his party's decision remained in his position. After the Germans captured Lodz they nominated him [in October 1939] to the position of "Elder of the Jews" [Aeltester der Juden], a position he held for nearly five years, until the liquidation of the Lodz ghetto in August 1944. At the same time he was ordered to create a Council of Elders [Beirat] and organize the machinery of the Jewish "self-administration." in August 1944 the ghetto was liquidated, and Rumkowski and his family voluntarily joined the last transport of jews to Auschwitz and were murdered there.
1941, Pacel card from Stockholm, Sweden, this parcel card was sent to Eduard Schleifer Gotlieb, who was a resident of the Kielce Ghetto, dated 22nd Novenber 1941.
The ghetto was ostablished in March 1941. These parcwl cards were received by the Judenrat postl services, who would sign for receip[t on the back. The signatory is that of the Judenrat clerk in charge of postal services. [Certificated by the Expert of thePolish Philatelic Union, dated 17 th Dec. 1998].
1941, Parcel reciept sent to the Ghetto, 4.7.1941. Taxed 1K 9.VII.41 on arrival in Czechoslovakia. Received Theresienstadt II.VII.41.
1941, This pre stamped German postcard sent from Litzmannstadt ghetto to an address in Russia, written on the 26th April 1941, & cancelled the 30th it is also hand stamped with the red canceller of "Der Aelteste der Juden in Litzmannstadt - Ch. Rumkowski". Censored by germaqn consor, received in Russia with the cancel date of 12th August 1941.
1942, 'ZURUCK' [RETURN TO SENDER]. Apre-stamped postcard sent by Max Hirschberg. A Litzmannstadt ghetto resident, to family in radom. Delivery was refused by the Nazi Censor, who cached it 'azuruck'. Certified and signed L Sschmutz.
1942, A pre stamped postcard with the occupation overprint, sent from Litzmannstadt ghetto by Z. Witkind top Mrs. B. Witkind to Mrs.B. Witkind in Krosno c/o the cultural socioety, and dated 1/1/ 1942. In this postcard the word 'BROD' [BREAD] is underscored, while the food in the Litzmannstadt ghetto isdiscussed, as to what they have and have not.
KROSNO, a town in Rseszow province, in South East Poland. In July 1942 the Jews from Krosno country were concentrated in Brzozow, Duikla, Jasienice, Korczyn, and Rymanow and from there deported to the Belzec death camp. About 800 Jews, who went into hiding and were discovered, lived in the Korsno ghetto from August till December 1942. On December 2nd 1942 the ghetto was liquidated and all its inmates deported to Rzeszow, were they shared the plight of Rzeszow Jewry.
1942, Chrudim, Atown in bohemia, part of Czechoslovakia. from there this postcard was sent on the 8th April 1942, by Vera Agenar, to the Litzmannstadt ghetto administation, were it was received on the 14th April. It arrived and was cached at the Loodz ghetto on the 16th April 1942.

1942, THE LODZ JUDENRATE ISSUED RECEIPTS: REAL MONEY EXCHANGED FOR GEHTTO MONEY. This money receipt, dated 15th Nov. 1942 was issued to Frau Hedwig Kramer. It was accepted for by the Judenrat, or Council of Jewish elders, Litzmannstadt, and [Lodz Ghetto]. This receipt is franked with a Deutsches Reich postege stamps, and cancelled Prag 3, Praha 3. The second money receipt, dated 6th Dec. 1941, was issued to Fisher. This receipt is franked with 2K adhesive and cancelled Prag 3, Praha3.
EMPFANGSBESTATIGTUNG - RECIEPT FOR THE TRANSFER BY POST OF MONEY, Gc 2.0. This receipt, dated the 11th April, 1942, for the transfer of Rm. 15 by Aliaja Zonenberg, of the Lodz [Litzmannstadt] Gehtto, 07/12a Roasanua street.

This postcard sent by joseph Ronbicek, enquiring as to two amounts of 30 Rm, sent to Valerie Ronbicek and Edwine Propper. Were they received by the two people, from the Ghetto Administration. The two cachts on the address side are from the Jewish Ghetto Administration, received 28th March 1942, the postcard being written 24th March 1942.
